HONG KONG, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A girl in her early teens -- or even younger -- helped three adults steal a 117-carat diamond necklace from a store, police in Hong Kong said.

The theft occurred Friday in a branch of Emperor Watch and Jewelry in the 1881 Heritage Shopping Center. The chain is popular with visitors from China.

The store said the necklace contained more than 30 diamonds and sells for $4.6 million.

Employees said the three adults, all of them well-dressed, posed as shoppers seeking high-end jewelry. The girl appeared to be between 12 and 14 years old.

"Initial investigations suggest the girl stole a key from a drawer and then opened a display cabinet to steal the necklace when the three adults -- one man and two women -- kept staff busy," a police source told the South China Morning Post.

The girl apparently walked out of the store with the necklace in her pocket. No one at the shop realized it was missing for some time.

On CCTV cameras, a girl identified as the thief is wearing dark jeans and a windbreaker as she exits the mall. The staff at the shop said she was wearing a different outfit, suggesting a quick change of clothes.
