PARIS, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced a counterterrorism summit will be held Sunday in Paris.

The gathering, which will involve U.S. and European officials, was announced a day after three armed gunmen attacked French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, killing 12.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to attend. According to a Justice Department official, "The meetings will include discussions on addressing terrorist threats, foreign fighters and countering violence extremism."

President Barack Obama offered U.S. assistance to France after the attack, the White House said.

"It's my understanding that there have been frequent conversations between a variety of American national security officials and their French counterparts, including conversations between members of our intelligence community," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday. He declined to say specifically what was discussed.
