GOMBE , Nigeria, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- At least 20 people were killed and more than 20 others were injured Monday when a bomb exploded near a bus station in Dukku, Nigeria.

No one has claimed responsibility, but some are linking the attack to the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, which is known for striking bus stations.

Authorities said the homemade bomb was planted near a bus at the Dukku bus station and triggered a fire that consumed nearby vehicles.

The bomb struck a large crowd as travelers were heading for their home villages for the Christmas holiday, the Nigerian Red Cross said.

Last week, Boko Haram militants attacked a Nigerian village, killing 32 people. Another 185 women and children were abducted in the incident. The group is also linked to the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in April.
