LONDON, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- A fire at Charing Cross train station in London caused an emergency evacuation Sunday morning with many fleeing passengers thinking it was a bomb.

"A fire at London Charing Cross is causing disruption to journeys between London Charing Cross/London Blackfriars and London Bridge," said the National Rail Enquiries.

Passengers fled the station after the fire broke out on carriage six of the train. Some thought it was a terrorist attack.

"We ran away towards the opposite end of the station because I thought that if there was a bomb, they'd probably take out the concourse,"said 60-year-old Eileen Harris.

It was confirmed that the fire was not the result of an attack, but caused by a technical mishap.

"At this stage, the fire is believed to have been the result of an electrical fault and there are no suspicious circumstances," said the British Transportation Police (BTP).

The incident happened on the 10:55 a.m. Southeastern train to Robertsbridge, Sussex. No one was injured.

The station reopened at about 1:30 p.m., but platforms five and six remained closed.
