Suicide bomber kills at least 45 at Afghan volleyball match

The attack comes just after security deals were approved allowing allowing Nato and US soldiers to remain after the withdrawal of most foreign troops next month.

KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A suicide bomber walked into a crowded volleyball tournament in eastern Afghanistan and detonated his vest, killing at least 45 and wounding 50 more, officials said.

A spokesman for the governor of Paktika province told the BBC that the attacker detonated the bomb as a crowd of people gathered to watch a match.

The suicide bomber was on foot in the crowd, officials said. Most of the casualties are believed to be civilians.

The attack comes in the wake security deals were approved allowing allowing Nato and US soldiers to remain in the country after the withdrawal of most foreign troops next month.
