Duke and duchess of Cambridge have a full dance card for the royal visit

WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- The duke and duchess of Cambridge will be visiting New York City and Washington D.C. for the first time and their schedule is jam-packed with events.

William and Catherine will arrive in New York on Dec. 7 where they will visit the National September 11 Memorial and Museum to pay their respects. They will also attend a private engagement on behalf of the American Friends of The Royal Foundation in the evening.

The duchess will remain in New York for the duration of the stay, but the duke will go to Washington D.C. on Dec. 8. Once he is there, he will attend the World Bank for a "working lunch" and a conference where he will discuss anti-corruption measures in regard to wildlife crime.

While William visits Washington D.C., Catherine will visit a local child development center with first lady of New York Chirlane McCray to learn about the mental health and education services the center provides for children and families. She will also attend lunch hosted by the British Consul General in New York to recognize the accomplishments of New York City's British community in the culture, arts, hospitality and business sectors.

Upon the duke's return to New York Monday evening, the couple will attend an NBA game to celebrate the association's collaboration with United for Wildlife.

On Dec. 9, they will visit New York City youth organizations to see the development programs and work with inner city youth. They will then attend events supporting the British in the creative sectors of New York and an event about technology in the U.S. and the U.K.

The pair will finish the trip with the University of St. Andrews 600th Anniversary Dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Proceeds from the gala will support under-privileged children.

This is not the first time the duke of Cambridge has been invited to the U.S. and specifically, the capital city. William was invited to visit Washington D.C. 10 years ago to celebrate the 275th birthday of Prince William County, which was named after the prince's ancestor and namesake.

The duchess of Cambridge is about 16 weeks pregnant with her second child. Their son, Prince George, will remain at home.
