ARGOED, Wales, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Police in Argoed, Wales, have identified a homicide victim as Cerys Yemm, and say she had her face partially eaten by her attacker.

Friends said Yemm, 22, and her alleged assailant, Matthew Williams, 34, were last seen leaving a local bar. They were found early Thursday by police in Williams' hotel room -- Yemm on the floor and Williams eating her eyeball and chewing her face. She was declared dead at the scene.

Matthews, who was allegedly under the influence of cocaine at the time of the attack, was subdued with an electric shock and died in a hospital while under arrest, authorities said. They added Yemm sustained severe facial injuries.

Police described the assault on Yemm as "eating her to death while high on cocaine."

Lyn Beasley, a neighbor of the small hotel, said, "He (Williams) went Hannibal Lecter on the woman, he gouged her eyeball out, ate them and half her face."

The victim worked at a local clothing store; Williams was released from prison two weeks earlier, jailed for an attack on a former girlfriend.

A person who knew both said, "'They met that night in a bar and got chatting for the first time. They had been drinking and he persuaded him back to the hotel and said he'd get her a taxi home. Once he got her back in the hotel he must have invited her up to his room and that's where he attacked her."

Police are continuing their investigation, and autopsies on Yemm and Williams have been scheduled.
