KIEV, Ukraine, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Ukraine's intelligence and law enforcement agencies have stopped a plot to disrupt Sunday's parliamentary elections.

Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko said Friday, "Today I can state that we have foiled an anti-Ukrainian plan to disrupt the elections and destabilize the situation in the country."

Nalyvaichenko indicated that those responsible were Russian special service members and Russian-backed separatists. The individuals involved in the plot "have currently been neutralized... And those who still exist in the country with explosives and weapons are hiding from us will either be detained or neutralized if they do not surrender."

Kiev reiterated that the elections will go forward as planned.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, whose bloc is expected to win the majority of the seats, told reporters Friday, "We will finally elect pro-Ukrainian not pro-Moscow, anti-corruption not corrupt, pro-European Parliament -- the Verkhovna Rada."
