INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Paula Kassig, the mother of Peter Kassig, an American aid worker held hostage by the Islamic State, has reached out again to his captors seeking his release.

Peter Kassig, who changed his name to Abdul Rahman after converting to Islam, was kidnapped by IS while he was in Syria as a medical worker in 2013.

The Kassig family has repeatedly made overtures to IS via tweets and through a video message pleading for the release for their son's release.

On Thursday, Kassig's mother wrote a message on Twitter intended for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed leader of IS: "We have tried to contact you directly to plea for the life of our only son, Abdul Rahman Kassig, and have not received any response. Please tell us what more we can do so that Abdul Rahman may continue to serve and live his life in accordance with the teachings of Islam."

The younger Kassig appeared at the end of an IS video released on Oct. 3 depicting the beheading of Briton Alan Henning.
