HYDERBAD , Pakistan, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A suspect in the 2002 beheading of American journalist Daniel pearl was freed Friday by an anti-terrorist court in Pakistan.
The court in Hyderbad, Pakistan, freed Qari Hashim Ali, citing a lack of evidence, his lawyer said.

Pearl, the South Asia bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal, was in Karachi, Pakistan, when he was reported missing in January 2002. A month later authorities said they received video footage of his beheading. His body was found in May 2002.
The mastermind, Ahmed Omer Shiekh, was sentenced to death for the crime, and three accomplices, Salman Saqib, Fahad Naseem and Shiekh Adil, were given life sentences.
