AZUZ, Israel, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- A shooting incident Wednesday on the Sinai border between Israel and Egypt injured two Israeli soldiers, the Israeli military reported.

One of those injured in what the Israel Defense Force said in a statement was a "cross-border attack" near Azuz was a female company commander of the Caracal Battalion combat unit.

The attackers were not identified, but a military source implied an anti-tank rocket was involved. Israeli reinforcements arrived on the scene soon after the incident. Islamists opposed to the Egyptian government have used the Sinai region, Egyptian territory adjacent to Israel, as a staging area and have occasionally launched cross-border strikes, but lately have reduced their involvement in attacking Israel.

In a separate incident, five Israeli soldiers were injured when their vehicle overturned as they arrived near the site of the shooting.
