Suicide bomber kills 67 in Yemen

Iran is being accused by Saudi Arabia and authorities in Yemen of backing the rebels.

RADAA, Yemen, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A suicide car bombing at a Houthi gathering led to dozens of deaths Monday after conflict was reignited between al-Qaida backed Sunni tribes and Houthi rebels in central Yemen.

A total of 67 Shia fighters were killed between the bombing, a shelling and an attack at two posts, according to reports by Al Jazeera.

Fighting intensified overnight with both sides trying to gain influence in the region. The mixed Sunni-Shia town of Radaa was hit with explosions by both sides as Shia tribes try to take over the large portions the region. Sunni tribesman also attacked the nearby town of Dhamar.

The Houthis rebels, who are trying to gain more territory after taking over Sanaa and the port city of Hodeida, have faced strong resistance from the Sunnis in the area and al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
