PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier, the former so-called president for life of Haiti, died of a heart attack on Saturday. He was 63.

Duvalier inherited the title of president for life at age 19 from his father, Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier. The younger Duvalier was ousted as the country's leader in a 1986 uprising after he was accused of human rights abuses and corruption.

He was criticized for lavish living during his tenure, reportedly spending $5 million on his state-sponsored wedding in 1980. Human rights leaders also accused Duvalier of imprisoning, torturing and killing thousands of political prisoners under his rule.

After his ouster, he spent more than two decades in exile in France and returned to Haiti in 2011. Upon return to his home country, Duvalier was arrested and charged for alleged abuses during his time as president. The case against him stalled before he died.
