Russia allegedly deploys paratroopers to eastern Ukraine

The Information Resistance Group, a Ukrainian NGO, reported Wednesday the deployment of the Russian Armed Forces 76th air assault division near the eastern Ukrainian town of Stakhanov in the Luhansk region.

KIEV, Ukraine, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Russia has deployed paratroopers with the 76th air assault division into eastern Ukraine, a Ukrainian NGO reported Wednesday.

According to the Information Resistance Group, whose mandate is "to counteract external threats to the informational space of Ukraine," the units were deployed near the Ukrainian town of Stakhanov in the Luhansk region.

The unspecified number of Russian paratroopers were being transported by special transport in groups of 10 over the past 24 hours, said IR leader Dmytro Tymchuk. He also claimed that a Russian communications jammer was detected in the vicinity.

Interfax-Ukraine News Agency noted that the NGO's information could not be confirmed.
