Spanish diplomat found stabbed to death in Sudan

An investigation is underway following the stabbing death of a Spanish diplomat in Sudan's capital city, Khartoum.

KHARTOUM, Sudan, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A Spanish diplomat was found stabbed to death in Khartoum on Monday.

According to police, the attack occurred at the 61-year-old diplomat's home in the posh Garden City district. His body was found early Monday by the maid.

"Security agencies in Khartoum State have started their investigation to find the criminals as soon as possible," Sudan's foreign ministry said in a statement.

The unidentified diplomat worked in the Spanish Embassy's consular section.

Following news of the stabbing, the foreign ministry underlined that "The Sudanese government is strictly committed to the protection of all foreign diplomats."
