JAKARTA, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Heather Mack and boyfriend Tommy Schaefer have reportedly confessed to the murder of Mack's mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase outside a luxury Bali resort on August 12.

Schaefer, 21, has admitted he killed his 19-year-old girlfriend's mother, and Mack confessed to helping and trying to dispose of the body, police said.

Bali spokesman Hery Wiyanto told CNN "it appears that the motive for the killing was because she was against Schaefer's relationship with Heather."

Police said Mack and Schaefer hailed a taxi at the St. Regis on the morning of August 12, loading a silver suitcase into the trunk before reentering the hotel. When they didn't reappear after two hours, the driver spoke to hotel management and they opened the suitcase to discover von Wiese-Mack's body inside.

The 61-year-old Chicago woman had been badly beaten, her body wrapped in a bloody bed sheet.

Mack and Schaefer were located asleep at a hotel about 6 miles away, initially claiming they had been able to escape attack by an armed gang that had murdered von Wiese-Mack.
