Some witnesses said they saw bodies near the blast site. A spokesman for the Kabul police said 10 civilians were wounded.
In a text message to reporters, the leader of the Taliban -- Zabihullah Mujahid -- said the convoy attacked a convoy of foreigners, killing "many" of them.
According to witnesses, the explosion took place on Kabul International Airport Road. That's just a few hundred feet away from the U.S. embassy compound.
This attack happened as the country is in a protracted political crisis caused by disputed political elections.
