U.N. condemns attack on peacekeepers in Mali

The attack follows a similar one that killed four peacekeepers and wounded 14.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The United Nations released a statement late Sunday night condemning an attack on peacekeepers and a Chadian soldier.

A vehicle carrying the soldier and the four peacekeepers struck a landmine near the town of Aguelhoc. The soldier was killed and the U.N. workers were wounded.

The Security Council demanded an investigation into the attack and called for those responsible to be held accountable by Mali authorities. It also restated its efforts to bring "lasting peace and stability" to Mali.

The attack follows a similar one that killed four peacekeepers and wounded 14.

"The secretary-general expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the peacekeeper who was killed and to the Government and people of Chad, and wished a full and speedy recovery to those injured," read the statement.
