QUNEITRA, Syria, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Al-Qaida-linked militants in Syria seized the Quneitra border crossing into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Wednesday, activists said.

The Syrian rebels included members of the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front.

Israel Defense Forces Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told CNN three errant mortar rounds and small-arms fire crossed into Israeli territory during fighting Wednesday.

One IDF officer and one civilian were injured.

This isn't the first time Israel has been pulled into the three-year-long civil war in Syria, but Israel has said it has no interest in involving itself in that fight.
