6.4-magnitude earthquake shakes Chile

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake shook the coast of Chile, causing power outages.

HACIENDA LA CALERA, Chile, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake rattled the coast of Chile Saturday afternoon, cutting power supplies but causing no significant damage.

There were no injuries reported by the temblor, which was situated about 67 miles northwest of the capital of Santiago.

The epicenter, at a depth of 21.7 miles, was 11 miles west-northwest of Hacienda La Calera and 14 miles north-northwest of Quillota, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

Miguel Ortiz, metropolitan regional director at the government's emergency service Onemi, told Bloomberg there was no tsunami risk from the earthquake.
