According to Nigerian Fire Service official Eyo Ime, an electrical fault is suspected.

The fire broke out around 10:00 a.m., reportedly in the chief accountant's office. NFF general secretary Musa Amadu said that "Staffers would have been able to reduce the impact of the damage, but could not gain access into his office and as such could not quell or trace where the smoke was coming from."

No one was injured in the fire, which marked another setback for the NFF.

The NFF is currently embroiled in political-infighting over its leadership while the Nigerian team has no coach since Stephen Keshi's contract expired in June and negotiations for his return have been drawn out.
