Plane flying from Florida to Bahamas crashes, killing 4 aboard

A Cessna plane flying from Florida to the Bahamas crashed Monday on Grand Bahama Island, killing the four unidentified male passengers.

NASSAU, Bahamas, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Four people died Monday when the twin-engine Cessna 340 they were flying in crashed en route from Florida to the Bahamas, officials confirmed Tuesday.

According to Royal Bahamas Police Force Assistant Commissioner Emrick Seymour, the plane crashed as it approached the Freeport Bahamas Airport on Grand Bahama Island. It is unclear what caused the plane to crash, but Seymour stated that crash occurred in a shallow water and mangrove area at low tide.

An investigation involving the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is underway.

Authorities have not yet officially released the identities of the four male passengers.
