ASHDOD, Israel, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Israel Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon urged vigilance and preparation Tuesday, as the three-day truce in Gaza is set to expire Wednesday.

Referring to Israel's combat operation in Gaza, Ya'alon, speaking to Israeli Navy personnel in the port city of Ashdod, said, "Operation Protective Edge is not over. But without a doubt, Hamas and the rest of the organizations in Gaza have suffered a devastating blow."

Ya'alon added it was uncertain if combat with Hamas would resume after the truce, saying he was not aware if an extension to the cease-fire can be arranged or if "another round of fire" was imminent.

"We must be vigilant all the time and be prepared."

Ya'alon also praised the navy for its work in neutralizing terrorist threats and infiltration of Hamas fighters on Israel's beaches, saying, "There is no doubt that the navy played a crucial role in damaging the Gazan terror networks and securing the western part of the (Gaza) Strip."

On Monday, Ya'alon said he would work to recover the remains, held by Hamas, of two Israeli Defense Forces soldiers killed in combat.
