WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- U.S. Department of Defense officials acknowledged Wednesday they were aware of North Korea's recent missile launches toward the Sea of Japan.

On Wednesday, North Korea reportedly launched four projectiles in the direction of the Sea of Japan.

"Rather than spend their money polluting the waters around North Korea [with projectiles], they should spend their money feeding their people," Pentagon Press spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren said Wednesday.

The statement follows North Korea's assertion of its sovereign right to conduct missile launches earlier this month, while at the same time its people continue to suffer from documented food insecurity.
