DONETSK, Ukraine, July 26 (UPI) -- The Ukrainian parliament must vote before allowing international investigators access to the site of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash, a process that could take about five days.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said Saturday such a vote could take place "next week,' The New York Times reported.

Meanwhile, dozens of military police and other international investigators have gathered at a hotel in Ukraine waiting for permission to access the site, said Jan Tuinder, the head of the Dutch forensic mission.

Access to the crash site, which spans miles, has been hindered by the presence armed pro-Russian separatists.

Malaysia Flight 17 crashed in the eastern part of Ukraine near Donetsk on July 17 after it was allegedly shot by a surface-to-air missile. All 298 people on board the plane died.

The majority of the victims were from the Netherlands, which is where all the recovered bodies were being taken for identification.
