JERUSALEM, July 25 (UPI) -- Israeli and Hamas officials agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire starting Saturday, a U.S. official told CNN.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that Israel would comply with the temporary truce.

Palestinian parliament member Mustafa Barghouti confirmed the same to CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Friday.

"Of course, they will," Barghouti said of Hamas complying. "Not only Hamas but all Palestinians."

Barghouti said Hamas would also be interested in a seven-day truce proposed by Kerry.

"My hope is that the 12 hours will be extended, perhaps to 24, and people will draw from that the good will and effort to find a solution," Kerry said.
