DAMASCUS, Syria, July 25 (UPI) -- The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria seized control of more territory in the the Syrian city of Raqqa with the alleged capture of an army base.

ISIS fighters attacked the Raqqa army base and, once under their control, released images showing the beheading of Division 17 Syrian army soldiers.

The Observatory for Human Rights, based in the U.K., said ISIS launched its attack on the base by using two suicide car bombers.

The Syrian army did not confirm the ISIS takeover of the base but said it was preparing a counter-strike against the ISIS fighters to regain control of the base, which is believed to have a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition.
