NANNING, China, July 20 (UPI) -- Super typhoon Rammasun plowed into China this weekend with powerful winds and downpours of rain, killing 16 people.

The typhoon, which killed at least 94 people in the Philippines last week and displaced more than 500,000, killed 16 people in China's southern provinces.

Seven people died in Hainan province and nine in Guangxi province, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported.

The storm knocked out power and damaged water facilities, telecommunications, ports and roads. More than 3 million people in the southern provinces were effected.

The typhoon was on track to hit Vietnam.
