HAVANA , July 14 (UPI) -- Dozens of Cuban civil rights activists known as "Ladies in White" say they were arrested in Havana as they diverted from their usual protest route.

The all-female group, always clad in white, has marched weekly since 2004, when it marked the anniversary of the deaths of 37 people who fled Cuba by boat in 1994. The group claims Cuban authorities deliberately sank their boat, an allegation the government denies.

The women are routinely detained after their protests are disbursed, and their protests yield little attention, but Sunday over 90 women were put on police buses as they marched towards Havana's seafront and formally arrested, they say.

They had planned to lay flowers at the waterfront in memory of those lost in 1994, and say their protests have produced desired results, noting all 75 political prisoners for whom they have campaigned have been freed.
