Hackers temporarily disrupt Tunisian voter registration

Tunisia's election commission began offering electronic voter registration on June 29 in an attempt to boost voter registration. A little more than a week after the launch, the system was temporarily off-line due to a "pirate attack."

TUNIS, Tunisia, July 10 (UPI) -- Tunisia's voter registration system was briefly disrupted by hackers, the election commission revealed.

The commission temporarily suspended registration via Internet and SMS because of the "pirate attack."

No culprit in the hacking was identified.

The election commission, also known as Isie, began offering electronic voter registration on June 29 in order to boost voter participation.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for October 26 and presidential elections on November 23.

Four million Tunisians participated in the first post-Jasmine Revolution election.
