KATRA SADATGANJ, India, July 9 (UPI) -- Police in Uttar Pradesh state in India said they plan to exhume the bodies of two teenage girls who were gang-raped and hanged from a tree in May.

Officials said they intend to conduct new autopsies on the cousins, who were 14 and 16 years old when they went missing May 27 after they left their home at night to relieve themselves.

The teenagers's bodies were found the next day hanging from a tree near their home in the Budaun district.

Five people were arrested for the killings, including two policemen.

One of the girls' father accused police of ridiculing police when he asked for helping finding his daughter. The families said it took police more than 12 hours to respond to reports of the girls' disappearance, and blamed the lack of a timely response on their lower social caste.
