MOGADISHU, Somalia, July 8 (UPI) -- The militant Islamist al-Shabaab group attacked Somalia's presidential palace in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was not harmed in the assault, Interior Minister Abdullah Godah Barre said.

All of the attackers were reportedly killed.

According to police officer Elmi Liban, militants stormed the palace after detonating a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) outside the gates of the residence. African Union and Somali troops fired back, repelling the militants.
