TORONTO, June 30 (UPI) -- Rob Ford is back from rehab.

In a Monday press conference, the beleaguered Toronto mayor apologized for his behavior and promised his constituents that he had learned his lesson.

"It was never my intention to embarrass the city or offend my fellow members of council. I deeply regret some of the personal choices I have made in the past," he told reporters.

The Toronto mayor announced last month that he had completed two months in rehab and intended to return to office on June 30. Ford entered the Greenstone rehab facility last April after taking a leave of absence from his mayoral duties. He admitted to smoking crack cocaine "in a drunken stupor" last year.

On Monday, Ford, 45, opened up about his substance abuse.

"I had convinced myself that I did not have a problem," he said. "But it soon became obvious that my alcohol and drug use was having a serious impact on my family, on my health, and on my job as mayor."

Ford added that he'd recommitted himself to a healthy lifestyle.

"My commitment to living clean is now unwavering," he said. "To the people of this great city, I want to offer a public apology. I used poor judgment, and I take full responsibility for my actions."
