The bomb was detonated in a market, and seven people were injured. While there was no report of responsibility for the incident, the militant Islamist group al-Shabaab have claimed similar acts in the past and have said attacks would come during the holy month of Ramadan, which began Sunday. Three people were shot and killed Sunday.
China withdrew its diplomatic mission from Somalia during a 1991 civil war, but announced it would reinstate its Mogadishu embassy in light of the election of a comparatively legitimate government elected in 2012. The Somali government, however, has had little success in ruling the country beyond the capital city.
Africa has seen major investment from China, largely in the development of natural resources.
The United States announced several weeks ago it would appoint an ambassador to Somalia, the first since 1991.
