MILAN, Italy, June 16 (UPI) -- An Italian soccer fan allegedly killed his wife and children and then went to a bar to watch the Azzurri take on England in the World Cup.

Carlo Lissi has been charged with triple murder after the bodies of 38-year-old Cristina Omes and two young children were found with their throats cut. The couple's children were 5 and 20-months-old.

Lissi allegedly killed his wife while she watched television and murdered his two children in their beds before going out to watch the World Cup match. It is believed that he threw the knife down a storm drain on his way to the bar.

The 31-year-old attempted to use the game as an alibi, but he then allegedly confessed to the murders and asked to be given the "maximum sentence," La Stampa reported.

After confessing, Lissi told police he committed the killings because he was "in love with someone else" and the love was "unrequited."

Italy defeated England 2-1.
