PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, June 12 (UPI) -- Haiti announced on Tuesday that long overdue legislative elections will finally be held on October 26.
Legislative elections were supposed to have been held two years ago.
The date for the second round of elections has not yet been established.
In the legislative election, voters will cast ballots for 20 of the 30 senate seats and all seats in the lower chamber. Municipal elections will also be held.
The government's announcement comes amid demonstrations calling for the resignation of President Michel Martelly, who has been accused of corruption.
