Right now she studies English, practices ballet, and dotes on her younger sister, Sofia, but she will one day lead the Spanish military.

MADRID, June 9 (UPI) -- Spanish Infanta Leonor -- soon to be princess -- is destined to follow her father's footsteps and undergo military training so she may one day lead the military.

Spain's Defense Minister Pedro Morenés made the announcement Sunday that when she comes of age, she will start on the path to become the next commander-in-chief. Morenés said that it is "very exciting" that one day a woman will be in the military's top slot. He did say that there is some debate over whether she will be addressed as Capitana or Capitan.

After Prince Felipe's coronation, Leonor will no longer be called "infanta" but assume the title Princess of Asturias. She is to follow the same preparation as her father, including military training, and at 18 she will swear her loyalty to the king and constitution.

"Until now, her parents have deliberately protected her so that she is not in the papers all the time. Those days are over," said the prince's biographer, Jose Apezarena.

The future Queen will continue, for now, to attend Santa Maria de los Rosales school, where she studies Chinese as well as English. Once her father is crowned, she will become the youngest heiress to a throne in Europe.
