PROVIDENCIA, Chile, June 9 (UPI) -- A 31-year-old man in Chile was injured Friday when the elevator he was in shot up 31 floors in 15 seconds.

Surveillance video of the incident shows Jose Vergara Acevedo get in the elevator on the first floor of a building in Providencia. The elevator almost immediately begins to rise before the doors even close.

The video shows Acevedo pushing buttons on the control panel, attempting to get the elevator to slow to no avail. The elevator then crashes into the roof of the building, seriously injuring his head and legs.
