Justin Bourque, 24, is suspected of shooting the five Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers Wednesday evening in the Moncton, New Brunswick, area.
He was spotted walking around in the area Wednesday during the shooting wearing camouflage fatigues and carrying firearms.
The RCMP New Brunswick Twitter feed posted a photograph of the suspected gunman taken during the shootings.
As of Thursday evening, Bourque had not been apprehended.
Police asked people living in the Moncton area to stay inside their homes, and keep their doors locked and lights on to aid in the search.
One of the officers injured in the shootings was treated and released from the hospital, while another was still hospitalized.
A friend of Bourque's told the Toronto Star the 24-year-old had a "radical restart" in February and was obsessed with gun glorification and police hatred.
Bourque's last Facebook post before the shootings quoted Megadeth song Hook in Mouth.
"A little man with a big eraser, changing history. We know the worst is yet to come. I believe my kingdom will come," the post read.
