BERLIN, June 4 (UPI) -- A German politician playing on the country's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" phoned a friend for help on a tough question: German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

German MP Wolfgang Bosbach was stuck on the 500,000 euros question when he called Merkel to help him out. The question was: "The cult WM66 washing machine is legendary among other things, because many owners used it to (a) generate heating, (b) cook food, (c) vacuum clean, or (d) receive radio from the West?"

Bosbach called on his personal cellphone to keep Merkel's number private, but people were quick to joke that the American NSA would be listening anyway. Unfortunately, the chancellor did not answer after he called twice.

He had to give up and settle for 125,000 euros, which he donated to charity. The washing machine was, in fact, used to boil food.

"Ok whatever it was, warm greetings from am," Merkel texted back later.
