Three brothers plead guilty to India gang rape

Two girls, 14 and 15-year-old cousins, were raped and hanged from a tree. Their rape and deaths sparked already brewing outrage in India over the unchecked violence towards women.

KATRA, India, June 2 (UPI) -- Three brothers have confessed to raping two teenage girls in India, but have not admitted to killing them.

All five men suspected to be involved in the crime have been arrested, including two police officers.The two girls were attacked while walking outside to relieve themselves.

Despite India's development, 620 million people still defecate and urinate in public due to the lack of plumbing.

"There's no toilet. Where can the girls go?" shouted Jamuni Devi, a woman in the girls village.

The community has bee wracked with grief and outrage over the girls' deaths. One of their mothers said the assailants deserve the same fate as her daughter and niece.

"Hang them in public," she said.

The names of the victims and the suspects have been withheld in accordance with Indian law.
