U.S. breaks new ground on embassy in The Hague

The U.S. Department of State announced Wednesday it has broken ground in the Netherlands for its new embassy in The Hague. The complex will be a multi-building complex located on a 10-acre plot in the municipality of Wassenaar.

WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of state broke ground Wednesday on a new embassy in The Hague, with completion expected in 2017.

The new embassy will be a multi-building complex located on a 10-acre plot in the municipality of Wassenaar. The embassy location will feature a chancery, a U.S. Marine Corps residence, a maintenance building, a utility building, and two access pavilions.

The building project is designed to be eco-friendly and aims to achieve Silver certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design's Green Building Council.
