BANGKOK, May 9 (UPI) -- A 20,000-strong group of protesters descended on Bangkok Friday to demand the removal of Thailand's caretaker government.
Prime Minister Yingluck Sinawatra was deposed earlier this week by the Constitutional Court after it determined she had abused her power. Her cabinet appointed Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan as caretaker prime minister.
Protesters, led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee, are pushing for an unelected interim government that will not be under the influence of Yingluck's brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Anti-government protests have been ongoing since November 2013.
