Two more climbers found dead in Japanese mountains

Police continue to search for missing climbers across Japan's mountain range.

NAGANO , Japan, May 8 (UPI) -- Two mountain climbers in Japan were found dead on Mt. Okuhodaka, bringing the number to 12 people who died during Japan's "Golden Week" holidays.

The holiday is a popular time for mountain expeditions, and climbers died in Toyama, Nagano and Gifu prefectures in a mountain range known as the Northern Alps. A search for missing people in several spots in the mountain range continues, and five members of an eight-person group were rescued at the 2,700-meter (8,858 feet) mark of Mt. Okuhodaka suffering from hypothermia and fatigue.

The mountain is 3,190 meters (10,465 feet) high, and is on the boundary between Gifu and Nagano prefectures.

The two climbers, Kazumori Motozu, 68, and Osamu Gorai, 46, were found dead in bitter cold on the mountain were in a party of three, and were found Tuesday, police said.
