According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake depth was measured at 14.9 miles.
The epicenter was approximately 60 miles northwest of Acapulco and 172 miles southwest of Mexico City.
Mexico is, according to the USGS, "one of the world's most seismically active regions." Less than a month ago, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake shook southern and central Mexico on April 18.
