Prominent former Somali government official target of al-Shabaab bombing in Mogadishu

Six people, including a prominent former Somali government official, were killed in Mogadishu on Saturday in a bombing carried out by the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab.

MOGADISHU, Somalia, May 5 (UPI) -- Islamist militant group and al-Qaida affiliate al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for a bombing in Mogadishu on Saturday that killed six.

Al-Shabaab spokesman Abdiaziz Abu Musab said the target was the vehicle of a prominent former administration secretary for the Benadir region, Abdikafi Hilowle, who was killed in the attack.

The blast occurred close to the city center in 'Kilometer 4' district which is near the Turkish embassy.

The dead included policemen and civilians.
