TOKYO, May 4 (UPI) -- A large earthquake hit the area 61 miles south of Tokyo early Monday morning local time sending aftershocks throughout the country. Despite measuring over a six on the richter scale, no tsunami warnings have been issued.

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter John Mayer, who is in Japan on the eastern leg of a world tour, began live-tweeting the event as news was reaching the rest of the world.

Aftershocks reached the Japanese metropolis and mass transit had to be shut down. As of late, no major damage has been reported.
