SEOUL, May 1 (UPI) -- A cellphone video from one of the students who died on the South Korean ferry that sank in the Yellow Sea shows the teens joking as the person on the intercom tells them to stay where they are.
Park Su-hyeon, 17, took the video in his last moments on the ship. Park died on the ferry and his family released the cellphone video to the press after his death.
The video shows the teenagers making Titanic jokes, not realizing that the ship is about to capsize and trap them. One unidentified student jokingly recorded his final words saying, "Please, if only I could live. Mom, Dad, I love you."
The students could feel the ship leaning, but the person over the intercom kept repeating orders to stay at their current location rather than abandon the ship, even though they were warned to "prepare for a dangerous situation."
So far, 188 passengers of the 476 have been confirmed dead and 174 have been rescued.
