KIEV, Ukraine, April 24 (UPI) -- The Ukrainian government decided on Thursday to suspend its anti-terror operations in eastern Ukraine as concern of a Russian invasion increased.

A high-ranking Ukrainian official told the Kyiv Post that counter-terror operations will be reviewed based on reconnaissance showing Russian troops movements near the border.

"According to Ukrainian reconnaissance, the risk of a crossing of the border by Russian troops has grown sharply."

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced Thursday that the Russian military will be conducting drills near the border with Ukraine in response to the Ukrainian government's earlier decision to renew its anti-terror operations against pro-Russian militants.
