ALICE SPRINGS, Australia, April 22 (UPI) -- The duke and duchess of Cambridge made their way to the outback Tuesday, where they visited one of Australia's most iconic destinations, Uluru.

Also known as Ayers Rock, Uluru is a large rock formation held sacred by local Aboriginal people.

Prince William and Kate Middleton posed for photos in front of Uluru, just as Williams parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, did back in 1983.

The royal couple left their son, Prince George, in Canberra, while they made their way through the desert. They're will "glamp" in luxury camping accommodation on Tuesday night, before making their way to Adelaide on Wednesday.
